SEAHAWK FIELD HOCKEY RESULTS
Salve Regina 3, Thomas 2 [OT]
Gaudet Field - Middletown, R.I.
Sunday, September 9, 2018

Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior midfielder Hannah Filiault (Keene, N.H.) scored an overtime game-winning goal on a penalty corner with an assist from sophomore Tori Bickel (Harleysville, Pa.) to give the Seahawk field hockey team its first win of the season, 3-2, 3:55 elapsed in OT, against visiting Thomas College.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina (1-2) wins its first game of the season in the first-ever matchup in field hockey with Thomas (3-2).

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina junior Hannah Filiault (Keene, N.H.) handled the ball quite a bit to transition her team from defense to offense. In the overtime, Filiault positioned to the left of Bickel who received the penalty corner at the top of the circle from freshman Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.), and drove the ball to the far corner for the win.
  2. Salve Regina senior Emma Gaudio (Cheshire, Conn.) made a pair of defensive saves behind the stellar effort from her classmate and goaltender Ally Daly (Peabody, Mass.) who finished with seven saves.
  3. Thomas sophomore Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) scored a goal in each half that tied the score both times, her second and third goals of the season.

Turning Point
Thomas had possession at the outset of overtime and made a quick rush towards Daly at the north end goal. Senior Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) had her shot stopped by the senior goaltender, but the Terriers earned a penalty corner. After Salve Regina thwarted the penalty corner, the Seahawks went on offense and controlled the attack until Filiault's game-winner.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina had a 2-1 edge in the score at halftime while the shots were even, 4-4. In the second, the Seahawk attack stalled (just one shot) and Thomas engineered eight shots including the game-tying goal from Thebarge.
