MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team will participate in a 'Play 4 the Cure' campaign when the team hosts Roger Williams University on Saturday, October 5 at Gaudet Field (1 p.m.).

Members of the both field hockey teams will wear pink shirts during warmups and hand out pink ribbons. The Salve Regina field hockey team hopes to draw awareness to breast cancer and raise funds for breast cancer education through this special game.

The Seahawks have established a secure online donation site with the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

Donations collected throughout the contest and the post-game penalty stroke contest against the Seahawk goalkeepers will benefit the the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

October is the height of the field hockey playing season in the United States and is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month of the National Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"We chose breast cancer research for many reasons," said interim head coach Tia Pydynkowski. "Many of us know someone who has or had breast cancer, and a previous member of our Seahawk family chose selflessly to stay home this semester to help a family member who is suffering from breast cancer."Play 4 the Cure
