Campagna's goal lifts Salve Regina past Gordon, 2-1

WENHAM, Mass. - Salve Regina defeated Gordon 2-1 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) on a windswept afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex. With the win, the Seahawks move to 7-8 (2-5 TCCC) while Gordon drops to 3-11 (2-4 TCCC).

The Fighting Scots got on the board at the 16:34 mark, on a perfectly executed corner. Senior Tori Blandin set up sophomore Clara Baker, and she utilized a screen in front of the net to bang home the first goal of the match.

Gordon outshot Salve Regina 7-2 in the first half; however the Seahawks knotted the match in the 27th minute on a nice goal from freshman Kelly Burke, who converted a pass from junior Brittany Lopes.

With the score knotted at one, junior Ali Campagna cashed in a rebound early in the second half to give Salve Regina a 2-1 lead. That goal proved to be the final one, as the Seahawk defense remained firm the rest of the way. Gordon had a chance to tie on a corner with no time remaining on the clock, but Veronica Pierce's shot was blocked.

Senior goalkeeper Devin Eppley had four saves for Salve Regina in the victory, while her counterpart, Alicia L'Heureux posted two saves.

Before the game, Gordon honored its four seniors, Kristin Lewis (Barre, Vt.), Alison Vigneau (Stowe, Vt.), Tori Blandin (Berlin, Mass.), and Wendy Recay (Mount Joy, Pa.).

The Scots will be back in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when they host Tufts in a non-conference matchup. Salve Regina will host Wesleyan at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
