NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Football has selected Salve Regina University freshman running back Joey Mauriello (Colts Neck, N.J.) as its Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week (Sept. 10 - 16).

Mauriello ran for a season-best 160 yards and two touchdowns in Salve Regina's 27-18 win over Dean on Saturday (Sept. 15). He averaged 5.5 yards per rush, including a 50-yarder and the scores were his first two of the season. He also corralled two passes for 31 yards in the air giving him 191 all-purpose yards on the day.

"Joey has stepped in as a freshman and shown great explosiveness," says Seahawk head coach Kevin Gilmartin. "The future looks very bright for him within the Salve football family!"

Salve Regina (2-1) hosts Western Connecticut State next Saturday at 4 p.m.
