NEWPORT, R.I. - Back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning helped give the Amherst College baseball team a 6-5 comeback victory over Salve Regina University in non-conference action Monday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

Camden New (Lewisberry, Pa.) blasted a two-run homer to give the Mammoths a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth then Jack Sampedro (Miami, Fla.) followed that up with a solo shot. RBI singles in the top of the fifth delivered two more runs to the visitors who led 6-2 through five-innings.

Salve Regina would score a single run in each of the next three frames, capped by a solo home run to lead of the bottom of the eighth by Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) to make it a one run game. The Sehawks put a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but Ian Donahue (Tokyo, Japan) got the stirkeout to end the game and grab his first save of the season.

Salve Regina (12-8-2) travels to face Johnson & Wales (RI) in another non-league matchup on Thursday, April 14, while Amherst (6-13) snaps a six-game losing streak and next travels to face Western New England on Wednesday, April 13.
