Beacons outscore Seahawks in first Newport game

NEWPORT, R.I. (March 23, 2022) - A lead-off bloop single, a base on balls, and then a three-run home run by senior infielder Craig Corliss (Hopkinton, Mass.) put the visiting Beacons on top quickly, 3-0, and UMass Boston scored three more times in the first inning before Salve Regina University came back with five in its frame. UMass Boston (9-2) finished with a 14-9 victory over Salve Regina (6-6) in a non-league baseball meeting at Reynolds Field in Newport.

Seahawk first baseman Tyler Cannoe (Schenectady, N.Y.) launched a two-run blast in the bottom of the first, his fourth home run of the season and third time he's homered in his first at bat. Catcher Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) had a sharp single to left in the second inning but his game was marked more by three hit by pitches. Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) collected three hits including a double and home run.

Sophomores Michael Breen (Auburn, Mass.) and Tyler Petrosino (Dover, Mass.) both batted in two runs apiece. Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) had another two-hit game for the Seahawks.

Will Tierney Freshman lefty Will Tierney (Sparta, N.J.) got the start on the mound for the Seahawks and he was followed by Nicolas Santo (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Tommy DelVecchio (Westfield, N.J.), Chris Beach Jr. (East Orleans, Mass.), and Ryan O'Donnell (Saunderstown, R.I.).
