Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - The No. 1 seeded Salve Regina University baseball team defeated No. 4 Curry College 6-2 in Game 3 before No. 5 Nichols College eliminated the Colonels with a 6-4 victory in game 5, setting the matchup for the pod final on Monday to determine who will face Endicott College in the Championship series beginning May 12.

GAME 3
#1 Salve Regina 6, #4 Curry 2

Salve Regina got seven shutout innings from freshman Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) who picked up his seventh win of the season (7-0). Maybach allowed six hits, walked two men, and struck out six.

The Colonels had a chance to jump on top early in the second inning with runners at first and second with two outs, but a great throw from Zack Smith (New Cannan, Conn.) in right field on a John Cave (Tewksbury, Mass.) single held the runner at third, saving a run for the Seahawks. Maybach got the next batter to fly out, ending the inning, and leaving the bases loaded for the Colonels.

A Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) single and grounder were responible for singular runs for the Seahawks in the second and fourth. John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) tripled in the bottom of the seventh, then scored on a sac-fly from Brody Santili (Lincoln, R.I.). A wild pitch brought in another run for the Seahawks in the bottom of the eighth before a Hunter Sleeper (Arlington, Mass.) sac-fly scored Ketch for the final runs of the day for the Seahawks.

David Griffin (Hanover, Mass.) went seven innings for the Colonels, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out four and walking four. Matt Hailey (Weymouth, Mass.) pitched one inning of relief, giving up two runs on two hits, and striking out one.

Series and Streaks
This was the 61st meeting between Salve Regina and Curry. The Seahawks snap a two game losing streak to the Colonels, avenging a sweep at the hands of the Colonels back on April 29.

GAME 5
#5 Nichols 6, #4 Curry 2

Nichols carried a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning where Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) launched a three-run homer to left field to break open the game and seemingly seal a Bison victory.

The Colonels did not go quietly though. A walk sandwiched between two singles to lead off the inning scored John Cave. Then Alex McClean (Eliot, Maine) scored on a fielder's choice. A bunt single from Jack Kallinich (Madison, Conn.) gave the Colonels bases loaded and zero outs in the inning, now only trailing 6-4. Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.) hit a line shot towards left-center, that appeared like it was going to zip through, allowing more runs to score, but Christopher Cerniglia (Monroe, N.J.) snagged the ball with his glove, then threw out the runner at first base who had left the base thinking the ball had been hit hard enough to get down to the outfield, turning a double play. Suddenly the Colonels were down to their final out and Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.) grounded out to end the Curry rally.

The Bison got seven strikeouts from Danny Hayden (East Greenwich, R.I.) who pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits to improve to 7-2. Vincent Amato (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Chris Dipilato (Wordcester, Mass.), and Kevin Kirley (Clinton, Mass.) each pitched an inning of relief for Nichols.

Fogarty was also the starting pitcher for the Colonels before moving to the designated hitters spot in the eighth inning. He pitched seven and a third inning, allowing three runs and striking out four.

Next Up
Salve Regina will face Nichols on Monday May 8, at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game for the Bison.
