NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University junior Jimmy Fitzgerald (Canton, Mass.) as its pitcher of the week for baseball (April 3-9).

Pitcher of the Week - Fitzgerald helped his team win a conference matchup against Endicott on Saturday (April 8). Fitzgerald pitched 6.2 innings of no-hit ball and was one strike away from completing the no-no before the Gulls picked up a base knock. He also struck out 10 in the outing.

"What can I say about Jimmy that I haven't already?" fourth-year head coach Eric Cirella remarked. "He seems to get better every start and on top of that he rises to the occasion for big games. That's what you need anchoring a pitching staff is a guy like him who relishes the big moments. He was a borderline pitch away from a no hitter. And I think how the game turned out is just going to make him more hungry. As good as he's been, he can still be better. And what I love most about Fitzy is he knows that too!."

Defending conference champion Salve Regina (17-4, 8-0 CCC) has won four straight and retains its No. 2 regional ranking in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches (NEIBA) weekly poll. The Seahawks return to home action on Reynolds Field this week with games Tuesday (vs. Wesleyan, 4 p.m.) and Wednesday (vs. Mitchell, 3:30 p.m.) before traveling to Keene State on Thursday (2:30 p.m.).
