WENHAM, Mass. - Gordon and Salve Regina played to a split of a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader in a tale of two games. The Fighting Scots erupted for a seven-run sixth inning on their way to a 10-5 win in game one. Salve Regina scored one run in the third inning and that was all they needed in a 1-0 victory to even the series.

The Seahawks improve to 13-14 on the season and 5-8 in the CCC, while Gordon stays near the top of the conference at 7-4-1 and 11-13-1 overall.

Game One

David Neil (Randolph, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie in the second inning with a solo shot to right field. Gordon answered right back in the bottom half with a RBI double from Jesse Amaya (South Gate, Calif.).

Gordon took a brief lead in the third inning when Jeremy Jackson (Waco, Texas) brought in Dean Demers (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and was safe on a throwing error with one out.

Salve Regina tied the game and more in the top of the fifth. The Seahawks scored three runs on four hits in the frame, starting with John Militano's (Miller Place, N.Y.) single to drive in Christian Vargas (Melbourne, Fla.). Alex Perry (No. Attleboro, Mass.) singled in Sean Becker (Richmond, Va.) as a part of his big day before Militano scored on a fielder's choice.

The Scots cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the fifth as Gordon led off the inning with an Addison Tarr (Oxnard, Calif.) single and a Demers double. Neither runner could advance on a groundout, but Alex Smith drove in Tarr on the next play with a single to shallow center field.

Trailing 4-3 entering the sixth, Gordon exploded for seven runs in the frame to put Salve in a big hole. Seven of the first eight batters reached, including five straight hits. Mark Fitzgerald (Camarillo, Calif.) capped off the rally with a three-run homer to right center.

Salve loaded the bases in the seventh, but could only manage one run as Gordon secured the victory.

Tommy Seaver (Rocky Hill, Conn.) took the loss after giving up seven earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Scott Hall (Weymouth, Mass.) went the complete game for Gordon and improved to 3-3 on the season with three strikeouts and four earned runs against.

Game Two

A high-scoring game one gave way to a pitchers' duel between Cory Poplawski (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Wes Arning (Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Poplawski only allowed three hits over seven innings of work, while striking out five Scots. Arning allowed six hits, but only one run. Neither starter walked a batter.

The lone run of the game came on a Perry single to left center to plate Militano in the third inning.

Gordon threatened to tie the game in the sixth inning, but the Scots were unable score after putting runners on second and third with only one out.

Poplawski improves to 2-1, while Arning falls to 2-3 despite lowering his ERA by more than half a point.

Perry went 6-for-8 on the afternoon with two RBI. Gordon's Alonzo Martinez (El Paso, Texas) came up with two of Gordon's three hits in game two.

The Scots are schedule to take on Bates for a doubleheader on Monday before a single game against Brandeis on Tuesday. Salve Regina hosts Keene State in a non-league doubleheader at Reynolds Field on Sunday (1 p.m.).
