SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Back-to-back pitching gems by Salve Regina University baseball hurlers in a doubleheader sweep over Wentworth Institute of Technology have garnered individual recognition from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Salve Regina University junior Daniel Kehew (Portsmouth, R.I.)  sparkled on the diamond as he tossed a no-hitter against Wentworth, 4-0. He worked seven innings, walked just two and struck out seven to help the Seahawks end a seven-game skid. Kehew's performance in the first doubleheader helped set the stage for his rookie teammate in the nightcap.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Salve Regina University freshman Kyle Pheland (Scituate, R.I), after pitching 6.1 innings of perfect baseball, finished with a one-hit gem in the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep over CCC rival Wentworth. Over seven innings, he faced the minimum 21 batters, struck out five, walked none, allowed no runs and only allowed one hit for the only Leopard base runner of the game. Pheland's impressive showing followed a strong no-hit performance of Daniel Kehew.

The back-to-back pitching performances came just after Seahawk baseball pitchers had allowed double-digit runs in each of their previous six outings during a seven-game losing streak. Salve Regina (8-15; 3-3 CCC) kicks off seven games in six days hosting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a non-league meeting Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
