NEWPORT, R.I. - 19 sports, one team.

Each year the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Salve Regina University initiates a campaign to solicit donations from all 19 varsity sports.

SAAC board members - Derrick Sarfo DarkoMatt Keyzer, and Molly O'Sullivan (the community service chair) - went to drop off the food at the Martin Luther King Center. Each sports team at Salve Regina collected items needed and requested by the center to help families less fortunate during the holiday season.

O'Sullivan said, "During the holidays, it is very important to help those that are not as fortunate. As athletes, we are so lucky with the opportunities that we are given. After coordinating the food drive with SAAC, it really opened my eyes to how much just a simple can of food can do for those that may not have a meal to go home to. I am very proud of all those that donated. Salve truly made a difference in many people's lives."

Salve Regina's SAAC also supports each team's individual community service efforts, including those highlighted in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) recent press release.
