NEWPORT, R.I. - If you look closely, or even if you are blind, you will notice two senior members of the Salve Regina women's volleyball team (Megan Clancy and Sarah Showalter) were key participants for the winning team ("Hey Nice Ace") at the first annual pre-exam stress-buster volleyball tournament on the Rodgers Recreation Center floor on Tuesday night.

Salve Regina associate director of athletics Kelly Scafariello organized the event to give Seahawk student-athletes an opportunity to de-stress and have a positive outlet before starting final exams for the fall semester. A total of 104 student-athletes came out the night before "Reading Day" to comprise 15 teams competing for the stress-buster volleyball title.

"Hey Nice Ace" defeated "The Toon Squad" in the championship match, 25-18, with all teams composed of athletes from a variety of sports.

Clancy and Showalter were joined on the championship squad by their classmates from football (Brendan Deasy), men's rugby (Glen Miles), and men's soccer (Jacob Brigandi, Andi Hoxha).

Coincidentally, all six Seahawks were recently involved with successful seasons for their respective programs. Salve Regina football and women's volleyball both reached their respective conference championship games in November; men's soccer won its conference championship the same month and advanced to the NCAAs for the second time; men's rugby won the national championship last May.

A similar stress-buster event is planned for the spring semester with competition in dodgeball or softball.
