Week at a Glance: Seahawks • October 2-8, 2023

NEWPORT, R.I. (October 2, 2023) -- Fall sports are well into their respective seasons and have had several chances to see NEWMAC competition. There will be nine home contests this week and visiting NEWMAC programs include: Wheaton College, Emerson College, The United States Coast Guard Academy, Smith College and Babson College

Salve Regina and the NEWMAC will be celebrating "Officials' Appreciation Week" from October 2-October 9. The Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA) adopted the initiative last year as a part of the DIIICA Strategic Plan for Collegiate Officiating designed to promote commitment to safe, fair and competitive contests. Please join us in thanking our officials for their support of, and dedication to, collegiate athletics.

TUESDAY (Oct. 3)

To begin the week, field hockey will host Wheaton College on Gaudet Filed in Middletown, R.I. at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seahawks are 5-3 overall after a 7-0 victory over Nichols college on Tuesday, September 26, and a 3-2 loss to Wellesley College on Saturday, September 30. Georgia Costello and Julia Decker both scored hat tricks in the Bison shut out. Elizabeth Clark also added to the total with an unassisted goal in the second period. Both Bryn Protheroe and Madi Allard spent time in goal during the contest. Neither goalkeeper had to make a single save, as the Seahawk defense made it impossible for any Bison shots on goal. Shannon Kennedy scored both of Salve Regina's goals in the Wellesley contest, however the Blue's fourth quarter push awarded them a win for the day.

For the first away contest of the week women's volleyball will travel to Worcester, Mass. to play Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 7 p.m. Last week Salve Regina lost 3-0 at home to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers on Tuesday, September 26. The Seahawks remained competitive throughout all three sets, yet the Engineers strength won out in the end (23-25, 18-25, 17-25). On Saturday, September 30 the team competed against Clark University and Western New England University at a tri-match hosted by the Clark Cougars. Salve Regina fell 3-0 to the Cougars but came back to win 3-2 over the Golden Bears.
