Week at a Glance: Seahawks • August 28-September 3, 2023

NEWPORT, R.I. (August 28, 2023) -- Salve Regina University kicks off the 2023 season with men's soccer, field hockey and women's soccer all competing at home. This fall when the Seahawks don the blue and green it will mark the institution's first year competing in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

FRIDAY (Sept. 1)  

Six different teams will represent the Seahawks to open the fall season. Salve Regina women's soccer will host the first home competition against Curry College at Brother Michael Reynolds Field at 4 p.m.  

Both women's cross country and men's cross country travel to Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., for the Suffolk Short Course Classic and will race at 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. respectively. This will be the team's first season with former associate head coach, Kacie Gallo, as head coach for both programs. 

Men's soccer will travel to UMass Boston to take on the Beacons at 12 p.m. in the team's first non-conference game of the season.  

Volleyball takes on Brandeis University to open the season in Waltham, Mass., at 6 p.m. The last time the two faced each other in October 2016, the Seahawks came away with a 3-1 win over the Judges. 

Football faces up against Curry College in Milton, Mass., at 6:30 p.m. The Seahawks' first test is their 30th all-time meeting with the Colonels; Seahawks are 19-10 in the series. The Seahawk football team finished 2022 with a win-loss record of 6-4 and will be fighting for another winning season in 2023.  

SATURDAY (Sept. 2) 

Salve Regina field hockey will host Regis College at home on Gaudet Field at 12 p.m. Since 2001, every time the teams have gone head-to-head the Seahawks have been victorious, with an 8-1 win in 2012 being the most recent.  

Women's tennis will play the first of several fall matches against Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I., at 1 p.m. The program's championship season has shifted to the spring, giving men's tennis and women's tennis the ability to train together for the NEWMAC championship tournament in April 2024. 

Women's soccer competes against Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Since 2005 the Seahawks and Hawks have met 21 times. In 2022 Salve Regina triumphed over Roger Willimas 4-3. 

SUNDAY (Sept. 3)  

To close out the weekend, the men's soccer team will host Johnson & Wales University at Toppa Field at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The last time the Seahawks met the Wildcats in 2022 the teams tied 0-0.
