NEWPORT, R.I. - Bring your daughter (Grades 2-8) to Salve Regina University for its 10th annual multi-sport clinic at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Friday, April 6. This coincides with National STUDENT-Athlete Day (April 6) and also continues a week-long celebration during Division III Week.

Student-athletes from various Salve Regina women's athletic teams will be on hand to demonstrate techniques and fundamentals of their respective sports and share their experiences as a student-athlete to empower younger females. Student-athletes from the basketball, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and volleyball teams will be among those in attendance. The clinic runs 6 - 7:30 p.m. (check-in 5:30 to 6 p.m.; pizza and pickup 7:30 to 8 p.m.), and pizza will be served following the clinic.

Since its inception in 1987, National Girls and Women in Sports Day has become the premiere occasion to celebrate the participation, success and accomplishments of girls and women athletes. What started in 1987 as a single event in Washington, D.C. to honor Olympic volleyball star Flo Hyman has grown into a nationwide celebration across all 50 states.

The Women's Sports Foundation is a member of the National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) coalition. Other members include: Girls' Incorporated, Girls Scouts of America, National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, and the National Women's Law Center.

The event is open to girls in grades 2-8, and the clinic is free. For more information, please contact Jennifer Foster at (401) 341-2247 or via email at jennifer.foster@salve.edu. You may register on site, beginning at 5:30 p.m., or complete a form downloadable here and bring with you on Friday, April 6.
