NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University men's ice hockey in partnership with the Movember Foundation and Newport Mental Health are hosting their inaugural Mental Health Awareness Night when the Seahawks host Suffolk University for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on December 4 at 8 p.m.

Most people know Movemeber by their annual event of growing Mustaches during the month of November, but the foundation is more than just that. Movember aims to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The goal of Movember is to change the face of men's health.

Salve Regina will don special customized game jerseys, featuring some mustaches, to be raffled off during the second period. Merchandise donated from local Newport businesses, notably O'Brien's Pub, will also be sold during the game with all proceeds from the evening being divided between the Movember Foundation and Newport Mental Health.

"Mental health is something that touches us all, the Pandemic has really made everyone aware of that," said sophomore defenseman Anthony Azzano who has helped organize this event. "We want to break the stigma around talking about mental health. We're all on the same team when it comes to our mental well-being, you're never alone. If we can make the difference to just one person through this it'll be worth it!"

"We're thrilled to celebrate the generosity of the men's ice hockey team," said Newport Mental Health President and CEO Jamie Lehane. "It's so inspiring to see the excellent work that Salve Regina has done in training their students to be the leaders of tomorrow!"
