Seahawks finish third at Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. (October 5, 2019) -- Senior Olivia Owen (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Cate Norton (Newtown, Conn.) led Salve Regina to a third-place finish in the Tri-State Invitational on Saturday.

Owen cruised along the looping course on the campus of the Community College of Rhode Island, splitting the first mile in 6:01 and working her way into the top 10. The second loop of the grass-and-trail course saw the captain gain additional ground and flirt with a spot in the top five. She crossed the finish line at 20:29, good enough for sixth in the field of 73.

Norton found herself in good position after opening the race with a 6:10 mile. She improved her placement on the second and third loops, assuring herself of a top 10 finish. She finished at 20:09, placing eighth overall.

Sophomores Christina Moran (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Meredith Casey (White Plains, N.Y.) and junior captain Sydney DeCesare (Johnston, R.I.) completed the scoring for Salve Regina. This was the first time that Casey played a scoring role for the Seahawks.

Trinity College senior Samantha Feenstra won the individual title, crossing the finish line at 19:26. The Bantams claimed four of the top five spots, and placed all five scorers inside the top 10, to win with a team score of 19. Eastern Connecticut finished second with 58 points. Salve Regina was third with 69.

The Seahawks return to action in the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State University on Saturday.
