NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina finished 18th of 57 scoring teams in the NCAA New England Regional Championship, improving on the program's all-time best placement in the regional meet.

Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.), Amy Irving (Bohemia, N.Y.), Alexa Cipkas (Granby, Conn.), Olivia Wilson (Bethel, Conn.) and Victoria Varone (Providence, R.I.) combined for a time of 2:02:16 and a team score of 575. The program had finished inside the top 20 in the regional meet just once before – 19/31, in 2003.

Palmquist again led the scoring charge, finishing 65/387 with a time of 23:31.8 on the championship course at Mount Greylock High School in Wiliiamstown, Mass. Her placement is the best regional finish by a Seahawk in at least the last 17 years, while her time stands at No. 9 on the university's all-time performance list for 6K. Irving (24:18.9), Cipkas (24:42.2) and Wilson (24:44.8) all posted personal-best times for 6K in contributing to the team's landmark performance.

"One of the goals we set for ourselves on the first day of the season was a top 20 finish in the regional meet," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "We went out and earned that position. It was impressive to see the team finish on a well-deserved high note."
