Palmquist leads Seahawks at ECAC Cross Country Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Salve Regina freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) posted a top-25 finish against challenging regional competition to lead the Seahawks to a 14th place finish in the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Palmquist completed the hilly 6,000-meter course at Mt. Greylock High School in 24:05, finishing 24th in a field of 284 runners. Junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) was second for the Seahawks, crossing the finish line in 25:03. 

Freshman Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.), freshman Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.) and senior Alexis Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) ran 25:56, 25:58 and 25:59 to round out the scoring five. Freshman Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.) was the sixth runner for Salve, finishing in 27:29.

Middlebury, ranked No. 5 in the most recent national poll, placed four runners in the top 10 to capture the team title with 31 points. Tufts was second with 63; Williams was third with 140. Salve Regina, 14th with 383 points, finished ahead of 29 scoring teams. The finish marked Salve Regina's highest team placement in its last 10 appearances in the ECAC championship meet.

The Seahawks conclude the the 2012 on Saturday, Nov. 10 in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship meet at Westfield State University.
