Seahawks earn 2nd place and Team Sportsmanship Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.), junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) and freshman Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.) had top-10 finishes, earning all-conference honors and leading Salve Regina to a second place finish in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on Saturday.

Palmquist and Waldschmidt covered the 6,000 meter course at Western New England University in 23:19 and 23:20 to finish second and third overall, while Ross finished ninth in 23:59. Palmquist and Waldschmidt eclipsed the university record for 6K. The previous mark, 23:24, was set by Caroline Norton in 2011.

Freshman Rachel Gedansky (Tolland, Conn.) finished in 24:12 and senior Ali Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) finished in 24:59 to round out the scoring five for the Seahwaks. Senior Mallory Goding (Cumberland, Maine) and freshman Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) were Salve Regina's sixth and seventh runners, crossing the finish line in 25:03 and 25:51.

The University of New England placed four runners in the top 10 to capture the conference championship with a score of 38. Salve Regina finished second with 47 points; Roger Williams was third with 64. The Nor'easters and Seahawks were recognized with the conference's Team Sportsmanship Award.

Other Salve Regina finishers included senior Antoinette Galdo (Park Ridge, N.J.) in 25:53; senior Kelsey Windisch (Ridgefield, Conn.) in 26:11; freshman Shannon Holden (Hingham, Mass.) in 26:17; freshman Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.) in 26:20; junior Kayley Ryan (Portland, Conn.) in 26:42; freshman Grace Mills (Groton, Conn.) in 26:45; sophomore Mary-Ashley Donelan (Upton, Mass.) in 27:08; junior Sabrina Parisi (Gloucester, Mass.) in 27:21; senior Danielle Schioppo (North Haven, Conn.) in 27:38; freshman Rachel Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) in 28:18; sophomore Carlie Currier (East Granby, Conn.) in 28:32; freshman Victoria Maxson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in 29:17; and senior Karen Krupa (South Burlington, Vt.) in 29:50.

Salve Regina returns to action on November 3 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Cross Country Championships at Mount Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass.
