NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Soggy course conditions didn't dampen the performance of the Salve Regina women's cross country team in the Mini Meet at Central Connecticut State University. Racing at rain-soaked Stanley Quarter Park, the Seahawks finished 11th of 14 in a field that included 11 Division I teams.

Freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) led the way for Salve Regina, covering the 3,000 meter course in 11:09. Junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) was second for the Seahawks, finishing in 11:34. Senior Alexis Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) and freshmen Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.) and Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.) ran 11:49, 11:53 and 12:04 to round out the scoring five.

Freshman Shannon Holden (Hingham, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 12:25 and junior Kayley Ryan (Portland, Conn.) ran 12:32 to place as the Seahawks' sixth and seventh runners.

Yale University had six runners in the top 10 and won the meet with a team score of 24. Providence College finished second with 89 points, and the University of Hartford was third with 115. Salve posted a team score of 300 to finish as the top Division III team in the meet.

Other Salve Regina finishers included sophomore Antoinette Galdo (Park Ridge, N.J.) in 12:34; senior Kelsey Windisch (Ridgefield, Conn.) in 12:54; junior Sabrina Parisi (Gloucester, Mass.) in 13:08; sophomore Mary-Ashley Donelan (Upton, Mass.) in 13:11; senior Danielle Schioppo (North Haven, Conn.) in 13:15; freshman Rachel Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) in 13:32; senior Karen Krupa (South Burlington, Vt.) in 13:48; sophomore Carlie Currier (East Granby, Conn.) in 13:51 and freshman Victoria Maxson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in 14:09.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship at Western New England University.
