Seahawks finish 2nd with four in Top Ten

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Salve Regina placed four runners in the top 10 en route to a second-place finish in the Golden Bear Invitational at Western New England University. Three Seahawks posted sub-20:00 5K times in pacing Salve to its highest invitational finish of the season.

Freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) led the way, covering the 5,000-meter course in 19:23 and finishing fourth overall. Junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) placed sixth in 19:40 and freshman Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.) finished 12th in 19:59. Freshman Rachel Gedansky (Tolland, Conn.) and senior Alexis Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) ran 20:08 and 20:28 to round out the scoring five.

Westfield State University won the team title with a score of 41. Salve Regina, with 64 points, finished ahead of 21 teams, including Roger Williams (136), Gordon (158) and Endicott (163).

Freshmen Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) and Shannon Holden (Hingham, Mass.) were the Seahawks' sixth and seventh runners, finishing in 20:59 and 21:14 respectively.

Other Salve finishers included senior Danielle Schioppo (North Haven, Conn.) in 21:45; freshman Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.) in 21:46; freshman Grace Mills (Groton, Conn.) in 21:58; sophomore Mary-Ashley Donelan (Upton, Mass.) in 22:21; junior Kayley Ryan (Portland, Conn.) in 22:38; freshman Rachel Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) in 23:02; sophomore Carlie Currier (East Granby, Conn.) in 23:08; freshman Victoria Maxson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in 23:52 and senior Karen Krupa (South Burlington, Vt.) in 24:06.

The team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 19 in the mini-meet at Central Connecticut State University.
