WESTFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) ran 23:58 for 6,000 meters to lead Salve Regina to a 14th place finish in the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State University.

Palmquist finished 41st overall in a field of more than 450 runners and placed well against strong regional competition. Westfield State will host the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship in November, so Saturday's meet drew 50 teams eager to preview the course at Stanley Park.

Middlebury, ranked No. 3 in the most recent national poll and No. 3 in New England, placed five runners in the top 10 and captured the team title with a score of 28. Amherst, ranked No. 20 in the nation and No. 5 in New England, was second with 64. Salve Regina posted a team score of 467 and was second among the Commonwealth Coast Conference teams in the meet.

Junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) was the No. 2 runner for the Seahawks, completing the 6K run in 25:07. Freshman Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.) ran 25:40, Freshman Jackie Ofria ran 25:49 and senior Kelsey Windisch (Ridgefield, Conn.) ran 26:05 to round out the scoring five.

Senior Ali Gallipoli (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.) were Salve's sixth and seventh runners, finishing in 26:18 and 27:25 respectively.

Other Salve finishers included senior Sabrina Parisi (Gloucester, Mass.) in 27:27; sophomore Mary-Ashley Donelan (Upton, Mass.) in 27:51; freshman Grace Mills (Groton, Conn.) in 27:58; senior Mallory Goding (Cumberland, Maine) in 28:21; senior Danielle Schioppo (North Haven, Conn.) in 28:34; sophomore Carlie Currier (East Granby, Conn.) in 29:03; freshman Rachel Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) in 29:16; freshman Victoria Maxson (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in 30:28; and senior Karen Krupa (South Burlington, Vt.) in 30:30.

The team returns to action on October 13 at the Western New England Invitational.
