Women's cross country tops all DIII schools with third place finish at Trinity

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's cross country team earned a third place finish at the Trinity Invitational held at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn. on Saturday. The Seahawks combined time of 1:30:46 was best among all Division III schools and trailed only second place American International (Division II) and first place Hartford (Division I).

Among the teams the Seahawks finished in front of was Westfield State, which finished 14th at the New England Regionals last year.

Leading the way for Salve Regina was junior Ema Waldschmidt (Verbank, N.Y.) with a time of 17:32, while freshman Aubrey Palmquist (Bristol, Conn.) was right behind her, crossing the finish line in 17:46. Freshman Jackie Ofria (Manchester, Conn.) rounded out the top three for Salve Regina with a time of 18:22, while freshman Joelle Ross (Simsbury, Conn.), freshman Rachel Gedansky (Tolland, Conn.), freshman Lea Cure (Altamont, N.Y.), and senior Danielle Schioppo (North Haven, Conn.) each contributed to the win with times of 18:31, 18:35, 19:24, and 19:39, respectively.

The Seahawks will be back in action this Saturday at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational.
