NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior Caroline Norton (Portland, Conn.) was selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference female runner of the week on Tuesday, as announced by conference commissioner Gregg Kaye. It is the sixth time this season that Norton has captured the award.

Norton led the Seahawks to their first ever CCC Championship on Saturday, finishing first among a field of 103 runners by completing the 6K race with a time of 23:25. Norton's effort helped the Seahawks edge the University of New England by just one point to capture the CCC title. As a result, Norton was honored as the 2011 CCC female runner of the year.

The Seahawks will race again on Saturday when they take part in the ECAC Championship at Grey Lock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts starting at noon.
