Six Seahawks in top 16 gives Salve Regina first place overall

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Salve Regina University women's cross country placed six of the top 16 finishers, led by freshman Paige Pallotto [Woodbridge, Conn.], to win first place at the Western New England College Invitational. The Seahawks featured 10 of the top 41 finishers in a race that featured over 130 runners.

Pallotto finished second overall, crossing the finish line just four seconds after Castelton State's Margaret Klein. Sophomore captain Caroline Norton [Portland, Conn.] and freshman Mallory Goding [Cumberland, Maine] were top ten finishers while the trio of junior captain Marisa Fiore [Lexington, Mass.], freshman Alexis Gallipoli [Branford, Conn.], and sophomore Taylor Rosendale [Grafton, Mass.] all placed before the first runner from the host school.

"The women ran very well. Winning is always a good thing, especially by a healthy margin, and the Seahawks dominated today," said assistant women's cross country coach Matthew Hird. "Although the course could be viewed as fast, the lack of any hills or anything other than flat ground make it possible to go to sleep, especially if there are significant gaps between runners."

The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships will be raced on the same course in two weeks.

"This was simply an incredible performance by our runners," said Seahawk head coach David Bender. "We look forward to hosting our first ever alumni race this weekend at Fort Adams before returning to Springfield for our league championship."
