Pallotto first overall; Seahawks finish second behind reigning TCCC champ Hawks

BRISTOL, R.I. - Salve Regina freshman Paige Pallotto [Woodbridge, Conn.] finished first overall in her first collegiate race as the Seahawks placed four of the top 11 finishers at the Roger Williams University Invitational at Colt State Park.

"This was a really tremendous effort for many who were experiencing their first collegiate competition," said assistant coach Matt Hird. "Paige looked strong and confident the whole way, consistently and bravely running the course in difficult conditions."

Sophomore Caroline Norton [Portland, Conn.] arrived at the finish line sixth overall and was joined by junior Marisa Fiore [Lexington, Mass.] and freshman Mallory Goding [Cumberland, Maine] at 10th and 11th overall. Only two seconds separated Fiore and Goding at the finish line.

Freshman Alexis Gallipoli [Branford, Conn.] came in as the fifth Seahawk finisher as Salve Regina finished second overall, ahead of Umass Dartmouth, Bridgewater State, Johnson & Wales, Lesley, Lasell, and Wheelock.

"With primarily a soccer background, Alexis did quite well in her first collegiate race," said Hird. "The team finished very close to perennial TCCC champion Roger Williams for the first time in quite awhile."

The Seahawks featured 18 runners in today's race with sophomore Taylor Rosendale [Grafton, Mass.] and senior Molly Brophy [East Bridgewater, Mass.] rounding out the top seven.

Next week Salve Regina races at Umass Dartmouth where Coach Hird's twin brother, John, guides the Corsairs.
