Fourth set victory for Seahawk volleyball

NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Salve Regina University women's volleyball did not let a first set loss of 26-24 deter them from winning the remaining three sets (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) and defeating the Camels of Connecticut College during Tuesday evening's contest.

All-Time Series: Prior to today's competition the Seahawks had a 3-11 win-loss record against the Camels and today's win shifts that record to 4-11. Most recently Salve Regina won 3-0 in 2022 and lost 1-3 in 2019. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Lucy Swanson contributed 24 of the team's 99 points and was at the top of the leaderboard with 23 kills.
  • Siena DeCicco was the leader in digs (41) and Sydney Ramsey topped the teams hitting percentage (.438). 
  • With Connecticut College up 22-20 in the fourth set Lauren Hoyle delivered two key kills for the Seahawks bringing the score to 22-22. Brighton Solheim served two aces, and a kill from Lucy Swanson secured a Salve Regina victory. 

TEAM THOUGHTS: 

"Successful night visiting Connecticut College," said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "We worked a lot in practices on point scoring and tonight's stats show with big games at the net from Lucy Swanson (23 kills, 4 errors, hitting .388) and Sydney Ramsey (8 kills, 1 error, hitting .438). Brighton Solheim added to the point scoring party with 7 aces of her own in our 4 set match. We're going to ride the momentum into our weekend tri-match vs. Bridgewater St. and Rivier."

ON THE HORIZON: 

The Seahawks host a tri-match against Bridgewater State University at 11 a.m. and Rivier University at 3 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 9 at the Rogers Recreation Center. Bridgewater St. and Rivier will play a neutral site game, breaking up the two Salve Regina matches, at 1 p.m.
