Three Stars of the Day
1 – WPI freshman Casey Hunt (Granby, Conn.) totaled 21 kills, 31 digs, two aces, an assist, and a block assist.
2 – Salve Regina sophomore Samantha Salwa (Ellington, Conn.) had 79 assists on the day.
3 – Salve Regina senior Chrissy Fraga (Milford, Mass.) had 62 digs on the afternoon.
Key Stat of the Day
WPI went 2-0 on the day in part because they only committed 30 errors, the fewest between the three teams.
Turning Points
Salve Regina trailed 19-15 in the second set against Worcester St. but the Seahawks scored seven of the next ten points to tie the set 22-22. The Lancers scored the next two to come within a point of tying the match, but the Seahawks scored four straight, ending the second set on a service ace from Salwa en rout to a 3-0 sweep of the Lancers.
Worcester St. led 15-11 in the third set against WPI, but the Engineers went on an 9-0 run to take the lead 20-15, and outscored the Lancers 14-4 to close out the third and earn the sweep.
Salve Regina and WPI squared off to decide the winner of the tri-match. After losing a close third set the Seahawks, looking to force a fifth and deciding set, came out strong and led 4-0 in the fourth. The Engineers fought back to take a 7-6 lead, that they would not relinquish the remainder of the match, going on to win 25-14 and improve to 2-0 on the day.
