Tauro top libero; joins four other Seahawks on All-CCC squad

NEWPORT, R.I. - Five players on the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team have been named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference's All-CCC squad. Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) were selected to the first team while Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) earned second team honors with Katelyn Beauregard (Darmouth, Mass.) and Emily Lipinski (Hampden, Mass.) garnering honorable mentions. Dianna Tauro was also named Libero of the Year.

Lipinski makes her first appearance on the All-CCC team, while Tauro makes her second (2013). Beauregard makes her third (2012, 2013), and Duggan and Violet join their fourth All-CCC team having previously made it in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Duggan, a first team outside hitter, leads the Seahawks with 309 kills, second in the conference, and 3.47 kills per set, ranking first in the conference. She also is second on the Seahawks with 298 digs. This season Duggan suprassed both the 1,000 career digs and kills milestones, making her the only player in Salve Regina women's voleyball history to accomplish both feats. She is the only player in program history to surpass 1,000 career kills. Currently Duggan ranks first in program history with 1,178 kills and sixth in digs with 1,143.

"Jenn has worked hard from day one when she walked in as a freshman," said head coach Lauren Parsons. "She had a goal in mind and that was to be one of the top players in her conference and she accomplished that. To make first team all-conference is amazing and I am so proud of her."

Tauro, a captain, first team libero, and libero of the year, leads the Seahawks with 404 digs and 4.39 digs per set both ranking fifth in the conference. Tauro surpassed the 1,000 career digs milestone as well this season. She currently ranks fourth in program history with 1,253 career digs. 

"I'm so proud of her," said Parsons. "She has worked so hard to be the best passer and defender she can be and it has paid off.  She has been playing since her freshman year and those previous years of experience have really shown in her senior year.  She deserves this honor and I couldn't be happier for her."

Violet, second team setter, leads the Seahawks with 811 assists and 9.42 assists per set. She ranks first in the conference in asissts per set. Violet, who became the programs all-time assists leader in her sophomore year, surpassed the 3,000 assist milestone this season and currently has 3,298 assists under her belt, as well as a program best 8.52 assists per set mark. She also owns the program's all-time service aces mark with 164. Her .64 service aces per set this season led the conference.

"Taylor has been our starting setter since freshman year and for her to be recognized by the conference the past three years is something I am very proud of for her," Parsons said. "She has worked so hard to perfect her position as a setter and I am so happy for her that she made second team all-conference."

Beauregard, also a team captain, garnred an honorable mention on the All-CCC squad. This season Beauregard totalled 29 blocks, 13 solo, and a .277 hitting percentage, good enough for fourth in the conference. 

Lipinski joins her first All-CCC squad an an honorable mention. This season Lipinski recorded 162 kills and 30 blocks, 11 of which were solo blocks. 

"Katelyn and Emily have been big impacts on our team ever since they arrived at Salve," said Parsons. "They both put up great blocks and come through for us with kills.  They have both worked so hard to get to where they are and I am so proud of them for being recognized by the conference with honorable mention."

Salve Regina earned a home playoff match for the fourth straight season and will host Gordon College on Tuesday November 4, 2014 in the quarterfinal round of the CCC playoffs.
