NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina volleyball rolled to a 3-0 victory over UMass. – Dartmouth Wednesday night as the Seahawks played their first match of the season at Rogers Recreation Center.

The dynamic hitting duo of junior Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and senior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) led the Seahawks to 3-0 victory over the Corsairs (0-1) by set scores of 25-7, 25-10, 25-9. Duggan and Adams combined for 18 of the team's 30 kills while junior Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) handed out a match-high 24 assists.

Salve Regina (4-0) raced out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set and never looked back as the Seahawks trailed only once over the three sets. Duggan sandwiched a pair of service aces around a kill from Adams and an attack error by UMD to finish out the first set, 25-7.

The Seahawks once again got out to a quick start in the second set but after a service error from sophomore Chrissy Fraga (Mildford, Mass.), senior Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass.) served three-straight points for the Corsairs to cut the lead in half, 14-7 but the Seahawks quickly took control of the match back as Duggan once again finished out the set with an ace.

Salve Regina opened up the third set with a 9-2 lead before UMass. Dartmouth put together a four-point run to cut the score to 14-7. Freshman Allyson Collette (Dennis, Mass.) strung together seven-straight points, including two aces to push the Seahawk lead to 22-7. Once again, Duggan finished out the set for Salve Regina but this time the final point came from a kill from junior Tara Kuck (Huntington, N.Y.)

Gibson and junior Caitlin Bien (Millbury, Mass.) each had four kills for the Corsairs while Bien added nine assists.
