BOSTON, Mass. - For the first time in its 12-year history, Salve Regina University women's volleyball opens a season with three straight wins. The Seahawks defeated Suffolk, 3-0, and Emerson, 3-1, to capture the team title at the Emerson College Tournament.

In three matches, Salve Regina won nine of 10 games, dropping only its first game with Emerson, 25-23. The Seahawks grabbed a close one with the Lions in the third game by the same score.

In today's earlier game, Salve Regina swept three games against Suffolk while senior outside hitter Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) established her career high in kills (20), besting her previous high set in her freshman year at Colby-Sawyer (10/2/10).

Later, in the match deciding the tournament winner, junior Katelyn Beauregard (Dartmouth, Mass.) set her personal record for kills with 15; her previous high was 13 at Wentworth last October. Junior Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Emily Lipinski (Hampden, Mass.) both reached double-digit kills (10 and 11, respectively).

Junior setter Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) amassed 49 assists for the Seahawks in four games with Emerson. Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) led a balanced team defense with 15 digs. Duggan and Adams added 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

"Rather than just swing for the fences, our attacks were more strategic than trying to overpower," said Seahawk head coach Lauren Parsons. "Our defense and tough serving led us to the championship."

Tauro and Adams both earned a spot on the all-tournament with Adams selected as most valuable player.
