BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Salve Regina women's volleyball team defeated Newbury College, 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-12), in non-conference action tuesday night.  Salve Regina outside hitter Tara Kuck (Huntington Station, N.Y.) led the way for the Seahawks registering a match high 11 kills on 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .500.

In set one of the match, Salve jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, outscoring the Nighthawks 25-7.  Teammates Kuck and Erin McGloin (West Islip, N.Y.) paced the Seahawks with three kills each, while Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in two kills in the set.  Also powering the Seahawks to victory in the first set was Sarah Showalter (East Lyme, Conn.) who served up an impressive eight aces in set one alone.

The Nighthawks would come alive in set two, matching each point of Salve's but in the end, the Seahawks proved to be to much and finished the set 25-16, to take a 2-0 advantage heading into the final set.  Once again Kuck led the way for the Seahawks, putting down five kills in the second set on eight attempts.

The third set would spark the offense of Duggan yet again, as she put away five kills on just six attempts for a hitting percentage of .833 in the set.  The Seahawks went on to complete the 3-0 victory 25-12.

Despite the loss, Newbury's Sydney Fish (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led the way for the Nighthawks with six kills, while teammate Regina Sibilia (Agawam, Mass.) dished out 16 assists in the match.

Newbury falls to 8-13 overall, while the Seahawks improve to 11-7 on the year.  The Nighthawks return to conference action tomorrow night, when they will travel to Nashua, NH to face NECC foe Daniel Webster College, game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Seahawks will take to the court again on Thursday, hosting Lasell at 7 p.m.
