Seahawks season ends at Colby-Sawyer with 3-0 loss in TCCC Quarterfinals

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team advanced to The Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals after a 3-0 sweep of Salve Regina in quarterfinal action, Tuesday evening. The Chargers won by scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-19.

 

Colby-Sawyer (19-12) travels to Western New England (25-8) on Thursday for a 7:00pm semifinal matchup. The Chargers hosted the Golden Bears in last year's semifinals and earned a 3-0 sweep to advance to the finals.

 

The Chargers held the Seahawks to a .046 hitting percentage en route to their 12th straight win over Salve Regina. Colby-Sawyer hit .299 as a team and was led by Stef Turner's (Boxborough, Mass.) .533 percentage. Turner finished the match with nine kills.

 

Earlier today, junior Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) was named TCCC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year and lived up to the billing this evening. Doody led all players with 12 kills and added 11 digs for her 14th double-double of the season.

 

Colby-Sawyer senior Megan White (Monroe, Conn.) who had missed the previous seven matches returned to action and led all players with 13 digs. Senior Genny Moore (Centerville, Mass.) had a match-high 35 assists to go along with eight digs.

 

Salve Regina (10-20) was led by sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.), who finished with eight kills and a match-high three aces. Junior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 11 digs, in addition to, four kills. Senior Brittney Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) contributed six kills and nine digs.
