Barry, Salter lead Seahawks past AMCats, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) tallied 16 kills (.519 hitting pct.) and five solo blocks to lead Salve Regina University to a 3-0 win over Anna Maria College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) volleyball action Wednesday night at Rodgers Recreation Center.

 

The Seahawks recorded a .354 hitting percentage for the match and improved to 8-14 (4-1 TCCC) with the win. Anna Maria dropped its third-straight decision to fall to 6-13 (1-6 TCCC).

 

The Seahawks captured the first game, 25-11, as they recorded a .419 hitting percentage. They went on to win game two, 25-13, and game three, 25-10.

 

Seniors Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) and Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) each recorded eight kills for the Seahawks while sophomore Jess Meyer (Seymour, Conn.) tallied a match-high 23 assists. Freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched a team-high 16 digs.

 

For the AMCats, freshman Leah Murphy (Wareham, Mass.) posted five kills, sophomore Nicole Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) posted nine assists, and senior Brittany Langdeau (Wolcott, Conn.) notched a match-high 19 digs.

 

"This was a great overall team effort. Everyone played and contributed to this win," said Salve Regina head coach Jen Maxwell. "We did a nice job taking care of the ball, setting the pace, and staying consistent. JB and Deana (Salter) played fantastic matches."

 

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to the University of New England for a tri-match with the Nor'easters and Western New England. Anna Maria hosts Endicott on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
