Seahawks name Canaff, Rubenoff, Salter team captains

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University volleyball head coach Jen Maxwell has announced that seniors Brittany Canaff (Paramus, N.J.), Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.), and Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) will serve as team captains for the 2009 season.

 

Salter led the Seahawks and ranked 10th in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) in kills with 2.28 kills/game (178 total) last season, and her 210 digs ranked her second on the team.

 

Rubenoff tallied 152 kills, which placed her second on the team, and her 46 blocks (26 solo) were also good for second place. Canaff was a solid all-around contributor for the Seahawks, recording 186 digs, 112 kills, and 21 service aces.

 

Salve Regina opened its 2009 season at the Emerson/Wentworth Institute of Technology Tournament this past weekend in Boston. The Seahawks began the tournament with a 3-1 win over Framingham State before dropping their next three matches to Plymouth State (3-1), FDU-Florham (3-0), and Emerson (3-1).

 

The Seahawks (1-3) return to action on Tuesday when they host Mass.-Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
