Salve Regina competes at TCCC Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. - An undermanned Salve Regina University women's track & field squad managed a fourth-place finish at The Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational hosted by Gordon College today.

The Seahawks battled hard with some great performances in the six-team meet.

Kelsey Jacobsen [Albany, N.Y.] scored in both her short sprints with collegiate bests. She was followed by captain Marisa Fiore [Lexington, Mass.] who also recorded a collegiate personal best in the 800m, placing third. Fiore also placed third in her first 3000m Steeplechase, getting overtaken only in the last 20 meters.

Ali Gallipoli [Branford, Conn.] staged a stirring dual in the 1500m - taking the lead, then relinquishing it, then taking over in the last 100 meters with a blazing kick for a career best. Danielle Schioppo [North Haven, Conn.] also scored her first collegiate points in the 800m while recording a personal best.

In the field events, Alyssa Desmarais [Burlington, Conn.] placed second in both the hammer and the discus, while Kathleen Kelley [Pembroke, Mass.] scored her first collegiate points with a fifth in the hammer - both were personal bests. The relays also came through with seasonal best times for a fourth place in the 4x100m and a third in the 4x400m.

"All the athletes rose to the challenge and participated with a willingness and ferocity which made the meet a good end to the season," said Seahawk head coach Matthew Hird.
