WENHAM, Mass. – Kicking off Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason play this afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex, No. 4 Gordon College women's tennis welcomed the No. 5 Seahawks of Salve Regina University in the CCC quarterfinals. The Fighting Scots defeated their counterparts, 5-3. With today's thrilling victory, the Scots advance to the conference semifinals where they will face cross town rivals Endicott College Gulls on Thursday, October 21 at 2 p.m.

The unstoppable No. 1 doubles partners, Jordyn Maddex (Andover, Kan.) and Annette Kim (Andover, Mass.) recorded the first victory of the day for the Scots (8-2). While over on Court Three, the Fournier sisters battled to the last moment, finishing as the final doubles match, but were ultimately overcome by the Seahawks' duo of Graysen Scherer (Mystic, Conn.) and Ellysa Tancrede (Chepachet, R.I.), 8-3, in the matchup. Graduate student Annemarie Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) and junior Casey Farrell (Cumberland, R.I.) had won their match on Court Two, 8-2, and Salve Regina had a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Starting off singles play on a positive note, Kim quickly secured another win by sweeping her opponent in the No. 2 slot to even out the overall score 2-2. Kim then passed off her hot racket to classmate Abbigail Fournier (Biddeford, Maine) in the No. 5 spot where she came out on top, besting her opponent (6-2, 6-4). Next to finish was Maddex at No. 1 singles, giving the Scots a 4-2 lead. After a back-and-forth battle on court No. 3, Madison West (Southampton, N.Y.) made a tremendous comeback to seal the deal for the Scots (5-7, 6-2, 6-2), securing the 5-3 win to lock in their trip to the CCC Semifinals.

Tancrede won her team-leading eighth singles match for the Seahawks. Haas rallied for a tiebreak win in her second set before the match was halted with Gordon picking up its fifth point.
