Seahawks defeat Blue Jays, 8-1, in Connecticut

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 7, 2021) - Salve Regina University women's tennis swept three doubles matches against the University of Saint Joseph, and then took five of six singles for an 8-1 final in non-league action at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex.

Sailor Nordstrom (New Bedford, Mass.) and Alexa Stevens (Portsmouth, N.H.) won 8-4 at first doubles while Annemarie Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Casey Farrell (Cumberland, R.I.) took an 8-1 decision at second doubles. Graysen Scherer (Mystic, Conn.) and Ellysa Tancrede (Chepachet, R.I.) won again at third doubles.

  4. Annemarie Haas (SRU) def. Ananya Srivatsav (USJ) 6-0, 6-3
  5. Graysen Scherer (SRU) def. Julia Michaud (USJ) 6-4, 6-2
  6. Ellysa Tancrede (SRU) def. Anna Nemergut (USJ) 6-0, 6-1

Tancrede won her seventh straight match in singles play. Nordstrom, Farrell, Haas, Scherer also won in straight sets for the Seahawks. Emily Kerr was the lone scorer for USJ on the night, winning at second singles (6-4,6-2).

Salve Regina (4-4) returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Roger Williams University on Saturday (12 p.m.). The Blue Jays (3-6) will play in their final home match of the regular season, a GNAC contest against Eastern Nazarene.
