NEWPORT, R.I. (October 5, 2021) - Salve Regina University women's tennis (3-4) swept three doubles matches before taking four of six singles matches for a 7-2 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth (5-4) in non-league action at Newport.

Junior Casey Farrell (Cumberland, R.I.) and graduate student Annemarie Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) earned an 8-1 decision at second doubles to get the sweep started. Junior Sailor Nordstrom (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Alexa Stevens (Portsmouth, N.H.) played an aggressive style at first doubles and came away with an 8-2 final. Sophomores Graysen Scherer (Mystic, Conn.) and Ellysa Tancrede (Chepachet, R.I.) finished the sweep at third doubles, winning the final five games for an 8-3 score.

In singles play, Tancrede and Farrell clinched the team victory with their straight set wins at sixth and third, respectively. Nordstrom and Haas brought the score to 7-0 with wins at first and fourth, respectively, before Ailey Riddick (Abington, Mass.) put the first Corsair point on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win at fifth against Scherer.

Senior Emma Sokolovsky (Canton, Mass.) rallied with a three-set triumph at second singles, including two tiebreak decisions in her final two sets.

Salve Regina plays its next three matches on the road to complete the fall regular season, starting with a 3 p.m. meeting on Thursday in West Hartford, Conn., against the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph. UMass Dartmouth plays at Curry College on Thursday with a 3 p.m. first serve. The Seahawks improve to 13-7 in the all-time series with the Corsairs, and have won six of the last eight meetings (last meeting in 2015, Salve Regina wins 6-3).
