CCC Rookie of the Week: Kasey Walther

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman Kasey Walther (Natick, Mass.) celebrated her 18th birthday on Saturday with a pair of victories to lift the women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Gordon College, and earn Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rookie of the week (Sept. 24-30) honors.

In doubles, Walther paired with senior Shannon O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) - a player of the week pick in the first week of last month - for an 8-1 win at the second position.

Walther earned her second singles victory of the season, a 6-0,6-3 score at No. 1 singles against Gordon's Lily Dreschler.

Salve Regina (4-5; 3-4 CCC) has one more regular-season conference match remaining (Sat. at Roger Williams) and hosts a non-league match with UMass Dartmouth on Thursday.
