Salve Regina runs into NCAA-bound Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. - While the snow fell outside the Beard Field House on the last day of March, Salve Regina University women's tennis competed inside against the Wheaton College team. The Lyons, back-to-back winners of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), improved to 16-1 with an 8-0 decision over the Seahawks.

"I am glad we got the match in," said Salve Regina head coach Ed Habershaw, in his 17th year at the helm. "This Wheaton squad has to be one of the most-talented teams we have faced in several years. They are gearing up for their second straight appearance in the NCAA Championships so it was nice to face that level of competition. We hope to be there soon."

"One of the trademarks of this year's Salve Regina squad has been its competitiveness," continued Habershaw. "Even when we have won matches by a 9-0 score, our players have fought in every point, game, and match."

Salve Regina (10-4) will host Springfield College, also a NEWMAC member, on Sunday at the Leroy Avenue courts at 1 p.m.
