Salve Regina women's tennis TCCC quarterfinal match postponed

NEWPORT, R.I. - The forecasted weather for all The Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships quarterfinal sites has forced a postponement of all four matches to Wednesday at 2 p.m.

The No. 6 seed Salve Regina will travel to No. 3 seed Endicott on Wednesday for its quarterfinal match in Beverly, Mass. The winner advances to the semifinal round next Wednesday, October 21, at the site of the higher seed.

The Seahawks, 13-time conference champions, lost 6-3 to the 2008 TCCC-champion Gulls in their regular-season meeting last month. Junior Erin Phillips [Morristown, N.J.] and senior captain Jessica Timpano [Narragansett, R.I.] won at first doubles while singles victories came from freshman Erin Henriksen [East Hampton, Conn.] and junior Elise Jones [Pittsfield, Mass.] at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

In Salve Regina's last appearance in the TCCC playoffs, the Seahawks were knocked out by Western New England College, 5-4, in a quarterfinal meeting on October 14, 2008.

Later this week, the Seahawks will participate in the 2009 New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament. The newly-formatted NEWITT, hosted by Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, features players paired up with their teammates, playing two singles and a doubles match against their opponent to determine advancement.
