Seahawks tie and take late lead before settling for third draw in four games

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer scored twice in the final 12 minutes to take a 2-1 lead over visiting Gordon College, before the Seahawks settled for their third draw in four games, 2-2, as the Scots got the equalizer in the final minute at Reynolds Field in Newport, Rhode Island, in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon.

All-Time Series: Gordon has a 23-8-3 mark in the all-time series with their former fellow conference member. Three of Salve Regina's wins have come since 2010 along with a pair of draws.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Salve Regina's Reagan Moffatt made 10 saves while her counterpart Emily Bengtson stopped four for Gordon.
  • Only two corner kicks in the entire 90 minutes, both in the first half for the Scots.
  • Heavy rain 90 minutes before game time did not delay a 4 p.m. start and the sun was shining much of the first and second halves.
  • Both teams drew a pair of offsides flags when they were heading north on Reynolds Field - first half for the Seahawks and second half for the Scots.
  • Gordon more than doubled the shots on goal (13 to 6) over Salve Regina and the Scots finished with 20 shots while the Seahawks had 13.
  • Salve Regina now competes as a first-year member of the NEWMAC - New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
