Two second-half goals stand up for Salve Regina

QUINCY, Mass. (August 30, 2019) -- Salve Regina University women's soccer scored two second-half goals Friday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium to win its season-opener, 2-0, against non-league foe Eastern Nazarene College.

The Lions slip to 0-1-0 overall with the outcome while the Seahawks improve to 1-0-0 to start the year.

The two teams battled to a scoreless first half with the visitors holding a 9-2 edge in shots through 45 minutes of play. Salve Regina got on the board in the 55th minute by way an own goal to seize a 1-0 lead.

The Seahawks doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 64th minute as Meagan McLaughlin (East Hampton, Conn.) curled in her first career goal.

Eastern Nazarene managed three shots on the night while Salve Regina racked up 26 attempts in the contest to go with an 11-0 margin in corner kicks earned.

Sam Bernardi (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Victoria Hern (Salem, N.H.) each fired one shot on frame for the home side.

Griselda Minchaca (Whittier, Calif.) turned aside 10 shots between the pipes for the Lions. Jenna Park (Barrington, R.I.) secured the shutout for Salve Regina with two stops.
