PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Salve Regina women's soccer team took an early second period lead, but Rhode Island College tied the game with less than 11 minutes in regulation as the two teams drew to a 2-2 tie, Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass. / East Bridgewater) quickly found junior Lauren Bulk (Portsmouth, R.I. / Portsmouth) who sent the ball into the back of the net to give Salve Regina (0-4-1) a 1-0 lead after just 1:19 of action.

The Achormen, however, answered just over a minute later at Lauren Maisano took it to the net by herself to tie the game at 1-1.

Despite 10  more shots from Salve Regina in the opening half and three from RIC, the score remained even at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes of play. Just 2:32 after the opening whistle for the second half, sophomore Jessica Broadhurst (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Bulk connected to set up sophmore Anna Shultz (Higganum, Conn.) to give SRU a 2-1 lead.

Rhode Island College found the equalizer in the 79th minute as Danielle Peloquin took a pass from Maisano to tie the game before regulation ended.

The two teams battled through 20 more minutes without either team scoring. Salve Regina was able to get a shot off in in the second overtime period while RIC had 11 shots in both overtimes as freshman goalie Carly Montgomery (Malverne, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) made five of  her nine stops in the extra time to keep the game tied.

Salve Regina returns to the field as the Seahawks open Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Curry for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
