NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Salve Regina University senior forward Erin McCullough (Ludlow, Mass.) scored late in the first half to give Seahawks momentum heading into final 45 minutes. But New York University had built a 4-0 cushion prior to the McCullough tally, and added an insurance score in the second half to finish with a 5-1 victory in the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament hosted by SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, N.Y.
It marked the first meeting ever between the two schools in women's soccer.
Salve Regina played its first game under first-year head coach Jessica DePolito, and now faces another program for the first-time ever, Westfield State, in the next round of the tournament.
