ONEONTA, N.Y. - Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) scored the game winner with just 56 seconds left in the second overtime to give Salve Regina University women's soccer the 1-0 victory over Hartwick College on Sunday afternoon in the Erinn K. Brozman Cup.

It was a tough defensive battle between the two teams. There were several chances for either one to take the lead but stellar play by both goaltenders kept the game scoreless.

Hartwick had a chance to take an early lead when Lysandra Tetreault (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) headed a pass from Kristen Zimmer (Geneseo, N.Y./Livonia) toward the goal in the 32nd minute but Salve Regina goaltender Jessica Lane (Marshfield, Mass.) was there to make the stop.

The Hawks had two excellent chances in the 84th and 86th minute, respectively, but both shots went high over the net.

The teams were even in total shots with 19, but the Seahawks outshot Hartwick 4-1 in the second overtime period and eventually scored the game winner.

Hope Brown (Sherburne, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) was solid in goal as she made nine saves for the Hawks. Lane had 10 saves for Salve Regina.

With their two wins in the two-day tournament, the Seahawks are the winners of the cup.

Hartwick's next game is this coming Saturday against William Patterson at 3:30 p.m. in the annual Mayor's Cup at Elmore Field. The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to take on UMass Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
