Seahawks spoil AMCats senior night with 4-0 win

PAXTON, Mass. - Junior Caitlin Eastwood (Seymour, Conn.) scored two goals to help lead the Salve Regina University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Anna Maria College during Senior Night at AMCAT Field. The Seahawks improve their playoff chances with the win, moving to 8-6 (6-3 TCCC) on the year, while the AMCATS fall to 0-11-2 (0-7-1 TCCC) with the loss.

Anna Maria seniors Heidi Toce (Ashland, Mass.), Sarah Moore (Jefferson, Mass.), and Crystal Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) were each honored before the game as part of the Senior Night festivities. Each of these young women were four-year varsity members of the AMC women's soccer program, as well as being two-sport athletes.

Eastwood led the Seahawks with her two goals on the night, while sophomore Ashley Jamieson (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Erin McCullough (Ludlow, Mass.) each added markers in the win. Junior Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn.) also stood out with two assists for the Seahawks, while sophomore Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) led all players with 11 shots while also dishing out a helper of her own. Freshman Jessica Lane (Marshfield, Mass.) earned the win in net, making three saves on the night for Salve Regina.

Freshman MacKenzie Lavertue (Marlborough, Mass.) paced the AMCATS in shots, while goalkeeper Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) made a game-high 19 saves in the loss.

The Seahawks came out strong in the opening half, scoring three times while holding a 26-1 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corners. McCullough got things started early with what turned out to be the game-winning goal off of a solid pass from Galla in just the second minute of play. The Seahawks then received an unassisted tally from Eastwood in the 18th minute and a goal by Jameison off a feed by Birrell to go into the intermission with a 3-0 lead.

The Seahwaks continued to control play in the second half, and received an insurance goal when Eastwood collected a rebound off of a shot from Galla and knocked it home to complete the game's scoring.

Both team's return to action on Saturday in TCCC matchups, as the Seahawks host New England College at 1:00 pm and the AMCATS travel to face Eastern Nazarene at noon.
