SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Galla's two goals lead Seahawks past ENC

QUINCY, Mass. - Salve Regina University overcame a 2-1 first half deficit with three second half goals to take Saturday's TCCC women's soccer match from host Eastern Nazarene by a score of 4-2. Salve Regina used solid defense and a balanced scoring attack in route to the win at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Eastern Nazarene caught an unlucky break to start off the scoring as an own goal put Salve Regina up 1-0. Salve Regina's Maggie Kane (Bangor, Maine) sent a cross into the box toward the goal. The ball bounced and deflected off of several players and rolled toward the goal. In effort to stop the goal, Eastern Nazarene's Morgan Goodney slid toward the ball but the touch sent the ball into the net for a Salve Regina goal.

Goodney displayed more hustle as she evened up the score on a pass from the right side from teammate Jillian Thornton. Goodney hustled to the pass and sent a shot into the right side of the net for her first goal of the season.

Just past the 29 minute mark, Eastern Nazarene's Ali Polcari positioned herself in the box on a corner kick by Kara Webber. Polcari gathered the pass and struck a shot past the Salve Regina keeper to send the Lions into the half with a 2-1 lead.

Salve Regina rebounded well in the second half as Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn.) scored twice while Jackie Lee (North Reading, Mass.) added a goal for the Seahawks. Sale Regina's defense held strong and enabled the Seahawks to come out with the win by a score of 4-2.

Galla's two scores bring her season total to 8 while Lee's goal was her second of the year for Salve Regina. Salve Regina goalkeeper Jessica Lane (Marshfield, Mass.) led all keepers with 7 saves. Eastern Nazarene's Victoria Sontag made 6 stops while her replacement, Lisa Clark had 2 saves.

Eastern Nazarene's Webber led all players with 6 shots on goal.

With the win, Salve Regina climbs to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in TCCC play. The loss drops the Lions to 2-8-2 and 0-7-1 in conference.
